F1 2013 was released in Europe in 2013 on PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360 on October 4. A digital version was released worldwide for Steam Store, as well as on 8 October for the PlayStation Store and 15 October for Xbox Games on Demand. The physical version of the game was delayed in the United States and Canada due to logistic issues specific to SKUs for the two territories. An official release date was not announced for the two territories, although a physical copy for store shelves was eventually released. The delay did not affect the availability of the digital version in the United States and Canada, meaning that users could still purchase the game through the Xbox Games Store, PlayStation Store, and via Steam on the original release date.[4]

  1. With little headroom left for a game built to cater for current-generation console hardware, this year’s F1 2013 is a largely iterative edition. The core, current-day season content feels mostly.
  2. F1 2013 is the latest game in the award-winning FORMULA 1 franchise from Codemasters which has sold over 6.5 million units. The culmination of five years of experience in developing cutting edge FORMULA 1 titles, F1 2013 delivers a range of new features, improvements, modes and, for the first time in the series, classic content.

F1 2013 was released on Mac OS X by Feral Interactive in March 2014.[1]

A 'Complete Edition' of the game was released in some territories. It includes the full game as well as all classic content on the disc and is available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.[5][6][7][8]

F1 2013 was made available to download for free on Xbox 360 between 16–31 May 2015 as part of the Games With Gold program.

Gameplay[edit]

The game features all eleven teams and twenty-two drivers competing in the 2013 season, as well as the nineteen circuits and Grands Prix. A 'Classic Edition' of the game features additional drivers, cars and circuits from the 1980s and 1990s. The classic cars featured in this game are Williams, Lotus and Ferrari. The 1990s cars required downloading the 1990s Classic Cars Pack.

Players can also play with the old cars on the new tracks and the new cars on the old tracks and the GUI changes if they change decades. Murray Walker also provides an introductory voice-over for the Classic Edition of the game.[3]

If F1 2012 felt at times like a half-hearted update, F1 2013 feels like a good step back in the direction where this franchise should be going'.[11]

Circuits[edit]

The game features the nineteen circuits that were used during the 2013 Formula One season and four 'classic' circuits. The additional four tracks are Brands Hatch, England; Estoril, Portugal; Imola, Italy (in 1995 configuration) and Jerez, Spain (in 1985 configuration). These four circuits were all used together in the 1986 Formula One season.

Visually impressive and mechanically astounding, Codemasters has proved once again that they are one of the best racing game developers on the market. F1 2013 captures the raw emotion and breakneck speeds of Formula 1, complete with some seriously gorgeous visuals that are as photorealistic as it gets.

Along with Grid and Dirt, Codemasters has now completed the perfect trifecta of racing games of modern gaming. Although at first glance it might seem that this is a game exclusively for Formula 1 fans, one of the most impressive feats of this game is how accessible it makes the racing feel.

Top Speed

Unlike other racing games, F1 2013 is based on a highly tactical sport: Formula racing isn’t as fashionable as the races we see in games like Need for Speed Underground, but it is every bit as good.

F1 2013 is a simulation game: you won’t find any wacky powerups or unrealistic handling here. This is a game for players who are looking for the most realistic racing experience possible, so it might not appeal as much to those who would prefer a more arcadey racing game.

Flashy Cars

Powered by Codemasters’ own Ego engine, the graphics in F1 2013 are top-notch. If you’re not familiar with this engine, suffice to say that it is the same one used in other Codemaster titles like Dirt 3 and Grid 2.

The visuals in this game are simply stunning: car models are insanely detailed, with reflective surfaces that look incredible under any weather condition. Speaking of weather, the game’s environments are also a thing of beauty, with carefully crafted recreations of some of the most important real-life racing circuits.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Formula 1 game without the proper sound quality. Every engine looks like the real deal, giving the cars an extra level of realism. There’s also visible damage whenever you carelessly bump another car. This damage can be felt in gameplay and is also realistically applied to your car’s in-game model.

Race for the Grand Prix

F1 2013 Game Mods

Just like a real Formula 1 season, F1 2013 contains nineteen circuits and the corresponding Grand Prix of the 2013 season. If you’re looking to hone your skills before taking on bigger challenges, the game offers a handful of different gameplay modes to get you accustomed to the world of Formula 1 racing.

New to this version of the game is the challenging Classic Mode; here, players will sit behind the wheel of a classic car in Formula 1 history. These vehicles from the 80s and 90s are harder to controls than their modern counterparts and are only recommended for seasoned players looking for a challenge.

Additionally, with the game’s Classic Mode also come new classic tracks. These racetracks are brought to life from important moments in the history of Formula 1. A nice little detail is that the HUD changes ever so slightly depending on the decade players are racing in.

This is a game where details matter – and Codemasters seem to have nailed the mechanics to perfection. It’s also worth mentioning that the game is compatible with racing wheels, and that’s actually how it should be played if you want the ultimate driving experience.

The ultimate package in high-speed racing simulators, F1 2013 improves over last year’s version in nearly every way. This is a game that’s hard but fair, and it’s an excellent addition to any racing fan’s library.
