We find ourselves in the blue ocean alone with no land in sight with a dry throat and an empty stomach trapped on a small raft with nothing but a hook made out of old plastic. The objective of the game is to stay alive, there is no fighting type of simulations in the game so you have to scare away the main thing that is trying to kill you which in this case is a shark. A shark will often come and bite the edge of the raft that you’re on. If it gets you, you will simply die. Although you can make weapons in the game, it is a hard task. You have to gather your resources by throwing your hook and pulling it back to the raft.
As far as the history of the game goes, it started as a student project in Sweden, at Uppsala University. A group of three students spent 4 months to create the prototype of the game. Eventually, the prototype was released for free on itch.io in December 2016. While the group was on Christmas break, Raft got a lot of attention and it was played and covered by major YouTubers like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, and FGTeeV. The developer team decided to move to Skövde and continue to develop Raft into something bigger and better. The group teamed up with Axolot Games in search of an investor and publisher. With the support of Axolot Games, the team founded the Redbeet Studio Interactive.
I guess we can say that Raft is a success story of three university students. If you are a person into survival games we highly recommend giving the game a shot. There are many features in the game that expands the gameplay further and it almost feels like there are no limits to the game at all.
